Admission to the US only with regular passports Starting May 1, 2006, preliminary passports are no longer valid for admission into the US under the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). Please note that this does not only apply to preliminary machine-readable passports, but also to preliminary biometric passports. If you are holding such a document and are planning to travel to the US or transit the US, you will have to apply for a new biometric passport or a US visa.
