Hawaii

In the middle of the Pacific Ocean, right between Asia and America, you find the more than 120 beautiful Hawaiian islands. Each one has its own fantastic, picturesque coastline.

The next continent is almost 4,000 kilometers (2,500 miles) away, the group of islands itself stretches over 2,480 kilometers (1,541 miles). The islands have been dream destinations for tourists for years. The tourist islands are Maui, Molokai, Oahu, Kauai, Lanai and Hawaii aka "Big Island." Two of the eight main islands are privately owned and may not be visited without permission. Each island is unique and you will find active volcanoes, lava streams, tropical rainforests, beautiful beaches, sugar cane fields, pineapple plantations and historical places. The Hawaiian islands have been shaped by the different cultures formed of Polynesian and Asian influences.

This tropical paradise attracts about 7 million tourists a year.

Most of them go there for the sensational beaches that often stretch over several kilometers, many others, mostly young people, go there for the surfing. Hawaii is the surfer's paradise. The famous Hawaiian surf is one of the best in the world. But also for triathletes Hawaii is literally a place of pilgrimage once a year, at the beginning of October for the Iron Man, the best known and probably hardest triathlon in the world. Hawaii offers various recreational options. You can swim, scuba dive, snorkel, sail, fish, play golf, or just go sightseeing.

One very interesting city is the city of Honolulu. It is international in every way - 5-star restaurants, luxury hotels, a lot of fun - but no stress. The traditional Hawaiian banquet is the Luau - a really appetizing and great event. The traditional Luau included meat cooked on earthen stoves an vegetables on palm leaves. Today, almost every tourist event with Hula includes a Luau.

In case you are more into nature, visit the Pali Lookout in the Koolau Mountains or the Waimea-Falls. Or Maui. The second biggest of the Hawaiian Islands was named after one of the heroes of Hawaiian myth and legend - Maui. According to the myth his greatest achievement was the Haleakala - a volcano 3,055 meters high (10,022 feet) and 33.5 kilometers in diameter (20.8 miles). Hawaii's flowerage is incomparable to anything else. Thanks to the isolated location of the archipelago, over 1,600 kinds of plants have developed to this day, plants that don't exist anywhere else in the world.

Hawaii is the third smallest state of the US. With regard to beauty, climate and recreational value, however, it is - without a doubt - the biggest.

Climate / temperature

The climate is warm and pleasant all year round on Hawaii. Between spring and fall, the temperatures are an average of 22 to 28 °C (71.6 to 82.4 °Fahrenheit), the summer months can be relatively hot and humid. In the winter months, temperatures are between 19 and 23 °C (66.2 and 73.4 °Fahrenheit). Of course, temperatures vary a lot more in the mountain regions.
