„Super Student Days" in Germany


Just like every year, students who would like to study in the USA are applying for the F-1 Visa from June until August, since the semester abroad is usually starting at the end of August/beginning of September. Apart from some other documents, it is mandatory to bring the I-20 form to the consulate, which is usually issued by US educational institutions which are authorized to accept foreign students by the Department of Homeland Security.
In the last years the waiting period for an interview in the consulate could last up to six weeks due to the peak season of tourists as well. So the US-consulates offer special "Super Student Days" in June, July and August to insure that all applications are handled in time.

Nevertheless we recommend scheduling an appointment for the interview as early as possible. The interview shouldn't be later than two weeks before the departure, since your passport will be kept by the consulate and forwarded to you by mail after a handling time of up to one or two weeks.
