Visa processing for student visas made easier
The US Department of State has issued instructions to make the processing of visa applications for foreign students easier and faster in a telegram to consulates worldwide. From now on, it will, in most cases, not be necessary anymore to check whether the desired course is suitable for the applicant's qualifications. The condition, however, is that the applicant is already enrolled at a college or university approved by US Citizenship and Immigration Services at the time of application. In addition, students can count on the fact that their applications will be processed faster and they will not have long waiting times for their interview appointments. These new regulations, however, are not a license for lax handling of US authorities. You should make sure to schedule your appointment in good time. The careful preparation of visa applications has still top priority.
From now on, it will also be easier to prove the intention of returning to your home country after the visa expiration date. The new regulations for this are not as restrictive anymore as the old ones were. Especially if students are planning a long-term stay in the US. The financial means for the stay, however, must still be demonstrated.
Changes in the consulates' jurisdiction
Up to now, you could only schedule interview appointments at the consulate with jurisdiction over your place of residence. From now on, however, you may schedule an appointment at any consulate, irrespective of your place of residence, according to the US embassy's call center. So, for example, if you live in Munich, you may still schedule your interview with the consulate in Frankfurt or Berlin. However, please make sure these regulations are still in effect before scheduling your appointment.
