H-1B News As already announced in the previous newsletter, US Citizenship and Immigration Services has made the additional 20,000 H-1B Visas available for applicants without a master's degree. This interpretation, however, does not agree with current immigration law. According to William Yates, Associate Director for Operations, the executive order is still with the budget and management department which is negotiating with US Congress.

It is, however, acceptable to already apply for the fiscal year 2006 and receive visas out of the additional quota. In this case, you would receive instructions for any further action in good time.

Lighters make the list of prohibited items In March the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) announced a new law that prohibits carrying lighters with you beyond airport checkpoints or on board (in your carry-on luggage). This is a direct result of the Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act. This Act states that butane lighters are to be added to the TSA list of prohibited items. The new regulations will become effective April 14, 2005.
