Citizenship Requirements

Since its foundation, people all over the world dream to immigrate into the U.S.. For many, this dream comes true after having received the Green Card which allows its holder to live and work in the U.S. and simultaneously grants the opportunity to leave and return to the United States whenever they wish.

Yet, some already view themselves as full members of the U.S. These people want to become legal citizens possessing the same rights and responsibilities as any person being born in the U.S. Therefore, they apply for citizenship USA.

Requirements for the US Citizenship

During application, they have to meet certain requirements. The main Citizenship Requirements concern age, permanent resident status and language proficiency.

Eligible applicants have to be over 18 years old and hold permanent resident status for 5 years.  They have to be highly proficient in speaking, writing and reading in English. Besides taking a language proficiency test, they have to pass a civics exam. Finally, they have to show their allegiance towards the U.S. as well as to swear to be of good moral character and certify that they will uphold the constitution.

For some special groups of people different Citizenship Requirements apply. Male persons, for example, have to prove that they never have been dismissed from the armed forces and that they are willing to serve in the U.S. Army.
