How does the employer qualify for a C-1/D Visa?
Not only the applicant him- or herself, but also the foreign employer has to meet certain conditions to qualify for a C-1/D visa. Crew member visas will only be issued to employees of commercial, internationally active airlines and shipping companies. Crew members on private yachts or jets not part of an airline or shipping company that is not registered with US authorities, will need a B1 Visa. They can not travel visa free under the Visa Waiver Program.
