If I am already in the U.S., can I still change to E status?

Changing to the E status is generally possible, provided the applicant is already holding a valid U.S. visa – however, not all nonimmigrant visas allow for a status change. Please make sure to find out about the conditions of your visa first.

Generally speaking, it is not advisable to apply for a status change within the U.S. Since it is always the U.S. consulate in the applicant’s home country that is primarily in charge of handling E visa applications, we highly recommend to get advice there first.
