Immigration Lottery

In 1987 the US government under President Ronald Reagan decided to found an official Immigration Lottery called “Diversity Visa Lottery“. Through this program they wanted to make sure the diversity of nations in the United States of America would be preserved in the future because they regarded it as a characteristic feature of the American nation. The Immigration DV Green Card Lottery still exists today and thousands enter it every year in order to receive a Green Card – the permission to become a legal and permanent resident allowed to work in the United States. More than 50,000 Green Cards are given to the lucky winners of the Immigration Lottery every year – of course only to those that have proven to be eligible beforehand by presenting the required documents concerning almost every aspect of their lives.

After one is notified as a winner of the Immigration Lottery, one is free to enter the United States with an immigration visa, completing the process of moving ones place of residence. Only after receiving a Green Card an immigrant is permitted to call themselves a permanent resident of the United States and to start working at a paid job. The American Immigration Lottery thus enables thousands of people from all over the world to start a new life in the US, continuing the tradition of America as a nation of variety.
