Generally, US immigration law differentiates between two categories of family-based immigration visas:
Immediate relatives of US citizens MORE
- Spouses
- Unmarried children under 21
- Parents of US citizens (provided the child is older than 21)
Other close family members of US citizens MORE
- Unmarried children over 21 (First Preference)
- Married children over 21 (Third Preference)
- Brother or sister (Fourth Preference)
Please note:
Other relatives of US citizens such as grandparents, uncle, aunt etc. cannot be sponsored and thus do not qualify for family-based immigration.
