What are the requirements for skilled workers?

By definition, a skilled worker is someone working in a profession that requires at least two years of training or work experience. This means post-secondary education in the form of vocational schools or professional schools.
Whether or not a profession requires two years of training is being decided by the Department of Labor in the O*Net Online Database, which is being updated at regular intervals. Since there is no dual education system (like the one in Germany) in the U.S., a German job training is not necessarily required. The database states how many years of training or education are required for each profession, more than 12,000 occupations have already been listed.
