What is the required documentation for the O-1A visa?

People with extraordinary achievements in the fields of science, education, business, or athletics can apply for the O-1A visa. One example for evidence of extraordinary achievement would be an international award (e.g. Nobel Prize, Olympic Gold Medal, etc.). However, since those kinds of international awards are rare, an extraordinary ability can also be documented by submitting evidence of at least three of the following:

  • Receipt of nationally or internationally recognized prizes or awards for outstanding achievements in the applicant’s field
  • Membership in a national association of distinguished reputation in the field that requires outstanding achievement
  • Published material about the applicant in professional and/or other publications
  • Participation in a panel or jury as a judge of the work of other experts in the same field
  • Contributions of extraordinary significance to the field
  • Authorship of important articles in professional or other publications
  • Contributions to the work of organizations with a distinguished reputation
  • An extraordinarily high salary or other remuneration for services

Other achievements may be accepted as documentation for extraordinary abilities. The above may not be applicable to each individual situation.
