English » U.S. Visa Services » Work Permit (Nonimmigrant Visa) » H-1 B Visa "Specialty Occupation" » What type of visa do accompanying family members get?
Spouses and unmarried children up to the age of 21 will receive the H-4 visa. It is not possible to apply for a work permit in this category, meaning none of the accompanying family members has permission to engage in any form of employment in the U.S. Children may, of course, attend school or university.
IMPORTANT: unmarried or same-sex partners do not receive a related status, even if they are married under foreign law or U.S. state law. They will have to apply for their own (work) visa.
