Spouses and unmarried children under the age of 21 receive a derivative status, which means they are also issued an E-1 visa. The accompanying spouse may separately apply for an Employment Authorization Document (EAD) if they wish to work in the U.S.
A work permit will be issued for two years. It can be extended for two years at a time, for as long as the E-1 visa is valid.
Children of E-1 visa holders may attend school or university, but not engage in any kind of employment.
