If Americans do something right, it absolutely is christmas decorations. Back in Hollywood we didn't see that many, but down here it is just pure joy to drive through the neighbourhoods and look at the crazy trees and decorations people come up with. There are also christmas light parades in the marinas, where yacht owners decorate their boats and join in a colorful parade throughout the harbour. I must say I never enjoyed the winter and especially christmas time much in Germany (probably mostly, because it is ice cold and rainy), but over here I cannot get enough of it.At the same time I am a little sad though, since this will be my very first christmas that I spend away from home and without my parents. We are slowly starting to make plans for this time.

This weekend I thought this old saying might bring us some luck. We took my parents for a much anticipated Whale Watching trip and guess what - we didn't see any whales! For the third time in a row! But even if it was ice cold out on the ocean,...

As you know, we are in full on visiting season right now. Currently we have some german friends staying with us, who actually are pretty much responsible for us being here. They were the ones who made Flo sign up for the Greencard Lottery, which he luckily won on first try.

Okay, the headline makes this sound like the last weeks were crazy and we just needed to relax this last weekend. But actually that's not the case. We had to pre-relax a little, since tomorrow visitor season is starting for us.

As I mentioned above it is located in the Huntington Harbour area. We don't actually face the Harbour or beach, but it is only a 10 minute walk to the beach and a five minute walk to the Bolsa Chica Wetlands of Huntington Beach.

LA greated us with bright sunshine and we felt so good to finally arrive in the city we now call our home. After a little drive we arrived at the place where we will stay for the next two months which is located in the heart of West Hollywood.

So we decided to take the chance of being in the US now and applied for the SSN on Tuesday. We got up early, because we had no appointment and arrived at the Social Security Administration Office at 9 am when they opened.

For us the weirdness actually started pretty early that day when we went for a coffee run and the girl at Starbucks greeted us with Happy Halloween. Afterwards we met our hotel manager with a little girl (maybe his) who asked us to Trick or Treat.

For this is our first morning here, there hasn't happened much, yet. But, I do have a huge change to announce: I finally figured out what to do with my name here. The last times we were in the US I noticed that Americans can't spell my name Janina.
