We moved into our house six years ago. I think I have mentioned before how small this house is. But we love it. When we moved in, we knew that the furnace was old, but only a couple of years later we learned that the furnace was probably 40 years old – built in the ‘70s, Over the past years, we had to call for emergency repair service at least twice, sometimes three times, a winter.

Six weeks ago John, Andrew’s friend, visited us. He and Jim sat in the driveway, smoking cigars, and while they were chatting John offered to replace the roof on our garage. For five years we had been putting this task off because it would cost us several thousand dollars.

I have a very good friend here. She is also German and won her green card through The American Dream. She moved from Germany to Maine in the same month that I did. It was good that we could support each other emotionally in that time.
