Are you looking forward to eating a delicious burrito, but cannot find one on the menu? Your eyes scan the menu and all you see are crazy names – that’s because Moe’s Southwest Grill likes to do everything a bit differently. Here, you can choose from a wide selection of fresh ingredients and create your own Mexican treat while you let yourself be taken to the beaches of Mexico for the afternoon.
The first Moe’s Southwest Grill was opened in December 2000, in the Peachtree Shopping Center in Atlanta, Georgia. The co-founder Martin Sprock opened the franchise together with his company Raving Brands. Martin Sprock’s idea behind the franchise was to create a Mexican fast-food chain dedicated to providing a great atmosphere and fresh ingredients. Microwaves are an absolute no-go and all the dishes are prepared right in front of the customers’ eyes.
The name of this fast-food chain also reflects the crazy, laid-back, and funny atmosphere that the company wants to promote. Moe’s is named after neither a man nor a women, but is an acronym for “musicians, outlaws and entertainers”. The restaurant just glows with the founder’s own creative charm.
When entering the fast food restaurant, customers are greeted with a hearty and loud “Welcome to Moe’s” said by a chorus of all employees and this enthusiastic welcome is meant to make you feel at home. Additionally, the restaurant’s atmosphere is defined by its selection of music. Instead of just letting the radio play in the background, the restaurant puts together a playlist twice a year. The playlists pay homage to departed musicians in particular. These playlists can also be found on Moe’s website.
In the meanwhile, there are more than 600 restaurants across 38 US states. Moe’s can even be found in Turkey, Russia and Costa Rica. In August 2007, the company was bought out by Focus Bands which also owns the chains Cinnabon ® and Auntie Anne’s ® and since then Moe’s success has continued to be on the rise
In principle, each customer can put together their own meals from a long list of ingredients which includes over 20 different organic choices. All the ingredients are in sight of the clients and the meals always come with tortilla chips and 3 different types of salsa. Of course, in addition to burritos, a Mexican food restaurant is not complete without tacos, quesadillas and nachos on the menu. Your search for a chicken burrito would be in vain here since the restaurant enjoys expressing themselves creatively, even on the menu. Instead, you will find Ancho Lime, Joey Bags of Donuts, The Homewrecker or the Art Vandalay (from the TV series Seinfeld) on the menu – all names hinting at movies, series, musicians and others. Hiding behind the names are burritos stuffed with everything from chicken to steak and pulled pork to ground beef. There are even veggie alternatives with tofu and vegetables. Prices vary depending on the ingredients from $6.00 to $8.50.
You should also make sure to give the quesadillas, John Coctostan (from the movie Fletch), Chicken Club, and Super Kingpin, a try. You can choose between quesadillas filled with protein rich meat or a vegetarian option with beans and cheese. The salads are always served up in a crispy tortilla bowl filled with fresh ingredients like olives, beans, iceberg salad and a dressing. A special treat here are the famous so-called stacks. Stacks are made of two crispy tortillas filled with beans, cheese, vegetables and/or meat which are then again wrapped in a soft tortilla and finally placed on the grilled. After this specialty was created in 2011, it became so popular that the restaurant made it a staple meal on the menu. People who have food allergies or are more conscious about their diet can also enjoy a good meal here because it is easy to pick and choose the ingredients you can and want to eat. Moe’s website also includes a list of nutritional facts for all the foods it serves.
Moe’s Southwest Grill even has a delivery service for all interested parties. Your favorite Mexican dishes can now be delivered right to your door: The fajita bar, the salad bar and the taco bar are comprised of a variety of ingredients that you can put together yourself, or you can order as many pre-prepared burritos as your heart desires. People with a sweet tooth can even order tortilla chips sweetened with cinnamon and sugar or choose from a selection of cookies. It does not matter what you are celebrating, Moe’s will cater everything from graduation parties to baby showers – their prices are fair and their service out of this world.
Moe’s even sells some of its products in supermarkets. If you have a craving for stuffed empanadas or guacamole, you can head to the supermarket as well. At any time of day, a little bit of Mexico will be in your reach – as far as the refrigerator at least.
Moe’s Southwest Grill also enjoys celebrating Mexico’s national holiday, Cinco de Mayo. Cinco de Mayo is celebrated every year in commemoration of Mexico’s victory over the French army at the Battle of Puebla on May 5th, 1862. On this day, Cinco de Moe’s, the restaurant hosts many activities and offers many discounts.
In addition to serving up delicious meals, Moe’s is also very active in the community. The chain actively supports and is an advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Fund (JDRF) which funds research for the cure, treatment and prevention of the decease Diabetes Type 1 in young people. Moe’s is even present on the local community level. Local neighborhoods or schools can take initiative with help from Moe’s to start community projects.
Many of Moe’s restaurants are operated by franchise holders who have the power to make decisions independently. The fundamental Moe’s values are naturally the same for every restaurant and any eligible candidates can become a part of this Mexican fast food restaurant.
