What is the DV-Program?

Under the present immigration law (Immigration Act of 1990), the USA has been giving away a certain number of Green Cards every year since the early 1990’s. Within the scope of the Diversity Immigrant Visa Programs (shortened to DV or commonly known as Green Card Lottery), a certain number of legal resident permits, known as Green Cards, can be won. A Green Card allows you to permanently live and work in the USA.

DV is an abbreviation for Diversity Visa and symbolizes the diversity of America's emigrants. The number behind the DV always stands for the fiscal year in which the Green Card winner will receive their Green Card.

For example:
Those who apply for the lottery in 2018 will participate in the DV-2020. The American tax year is from October 1st, 2019 to September 30th, 2019, which means winners will receive their Green Cards in the tax year 2020.
